CMC for lithium-ion battery
Introduction:
CMC is an anionic water-soluble polymer based on renewable cellulosic raw material and plays a crucial role in lithium-ion battery manufacturing, particularly as a binder in the anode material.
Our ultra-pure carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) WGULTRA delivers key functionalities critical in the battery cell material manufacturing process as an electrode and separator binding solution.
Key Functions:
Binder for Anode Electrode
CMC is commonly used as a water-based binder for graphite anodes, often in combination with SBR. It helps bind active materials (graphite) to the copper current collector, ensuring structural stability.
Improves Mechanical Strength
Enhances electrode flexibility and mechanical integrity, preventing electrode cracking during charge/discharge cycles.
Eco-Friendly Binder
Unlike traditional PVDF, which requires toxic NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone) solvent, CMC is water-soluble, making the production process safer and more environmentally friendly.
Enhances Slurry Stability
Improves the dispersion of graphite and conductive additives in the electrode slurry, ensuring a uniform coating on the current collector.
Reduces Swelling & Improves Cycle Life
CMC helps minimize electrode swelling, improving battery lifespan and cycling stability.
